Sunyata, or emptiness, which can be understood as a space of openness and potentiality.
This “empty” space, far from being negative, is seen as the source of all growth and understanding. In Buddhist meditation, practitioners often learn to embrace this empty, “between” space to observe the nature of their minds, break attachment to constant mental activity, and let go of the need to fill every moment with content.
The absence of “betweens” means missing out on opportunities to connect with this inherent spaciousness, and as a result, there is less capacity for equanimity, insight, and compassion.
